William Safire flogs DARPA for its LifeLog project, which some of my BBN colleagues are interested in. A sampling of terminology from the ever-erudite Safire:

  • LifeLog, the all-remembering cyberdiary
  • those wireless whiz-bangs [PDAs] are already yestertech
  • followers of Ned Ludd

Frankly, i think the hoopla from Safire and others about John Poindexter's Total Information Awareness program was more about settling old political scores than understanding technology (but i'm not a neutral observer).

Three Maryland teenage girls have been teaching the FBI how to talk in chat rooms. The agents pose as teenagers to try to catch pedophiles searching for young victims.

The girls were stunned at how poorly the adults did until they set to work on them. "They, like, don't know anything,"
