Slides from SBL Talks

The Society for Biblical Literature meeting is now over, and we enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend following it with our kids in the Poconos. So i’ve been relaxing rather than minding the blog, and have only now posted the slides from my two talks at my presentations page at SemanticBible.

Both talks were well-received, and i especially enjoyed the opportunity to work and present with Steve, and to hang out with some of my Logos colleagues that i don’t see around the office much.

  1. I’m very excited about what’s going to be happening to Logos with the second presentation. Much of it is exactly what I’ve been hoping for for quite a while, particularly related to L&N with Opentext.org.

    1) I’m somewhat concerned about the word level integration of English/Greek resources, particularly in light of the English only person. There is a tendency to view meaning as existing essentially at the word level, when the phrase level & clause level (if not the discourse) are actually more important levels of meaning (I’m studying linguistics with SIL).

    2) I’m the guy who asked about your presentations previously. After watching your Vocative presentation, I’m all the more interested in reading whatever else you might have prepared (paper, outline, etc.). I’ve been working on a project arguing against a pericope break at Eph 5.21/22. The only reason that I’ve come across for the break is Paul’s use of the vocative at 5.22, which is based on the traditional view you criticized in your presentation. I’d really appreciate it if you would consider e-mailing me your paper itself/outline. It would be a fantastic help in my studies (mga318 AT yahoo DOTCOM).
